47 Days and Counting

Hey Everyone :)

How quick has this week come to an end, and what a week it has been!

Unfortunately we can’t bring you any exciting news about our upcoming trailer because due to technical difficulties we have had to postpone the filming until next week but on the Bright side it has meant we have been able to clean the piece ready for Tuesday.

This week has seen us practice our educational workshops ready for touring to local schools, so they can experience the process that we went through during intensive week whilst creating Moon eaters. This was a valuable time spent for the workshop leaders as they were able to gain feedback on what needs work as well as it has given them the opportunity to try their ideas out.

We will soon be able to show you guys our poster for the piece as it has finally been sent to our design team for them to get creative with it. Also this week we have order our company hoodies so if you see us out and about, wearing them don’t forget to give a shout out or come say hi :)

Today’s rehearsal saw us break down the different musical ques to ensure that the transition between each section goes smoothly. We discussed professionalism again and what the different parts to professionalism are as this is what we are being graded on as part of our making and touring project.

We currently have the following dates booked for Flight Effect Performances and they are as follows:

Tuesday 8th March 2016 at Huddersfield New College
Monday 14th March 2016 Selby College
Friday 15th April 2015 Oldham College
Wednesday 4th May 2016 Tour (France Performance)
Wednesday 11th May 2016 Ampleforth College
Friday 20th May 2016 Create Dance Trail

We shall keep you posted on further tour dates as they come in as well as how the performance and workshops are going.

Until Next Time
Helen and Steph :) Xx

P.S. 47 Days until our Trip to France

Busy, Busy, Busy

Hi everyone :)

It’s beginning to look like a very busy week here in the flight effect studio; we have got so much going on with preparing for our upcoming tour of our piece Moon eaters.

Yesterday we took a trip to Yorkshire dance where we were given the opportunity to hear from past York St John graduates and find out about how they started a career in the dance profession. This was certainly helpful to us as we were able to ask any questions we had about getting ourselves out in the dance world whether it is performing, teaching or administration work; there was some one there to give us advice about how to achieve it.

After a morning at Yorkshire dance hearing about kick starting a career in the dance industry, we then went over to Northern studios home of both Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre, where we were given the opportunity to watch a company rehearsal of Phoenix’s upcoming Triple Bill performance pieces included in this performance are ‘Undivided loves, Until. With/ Out. Enough and Melt’ which is being performed from the 17th- 20th February at the West Yorkshire Play House. This was an inspiring visit as we were able to see how a professional company works in rehearsals, as well as being given a flavor of the intense rehearsal period of being in a professional company. This experience meant we were able to compare how a professional company works during rehearsals to our own company. This opportunity has also given us different things that we were able to take away and apply to our own rehearsals, so we are ready for when we graduate York St John and start auditioning for jobs and companies.

During our Flight Effect Rehearsal today we had two film and TV students, come in and watch the piece to discuss the filming the piece so we are able to create a trailer that can be used in marketing the performance to both venues and audiences. During this rehearsal we had the opportunity to work on some of the important notes that Dimitri had given us from our Skype rehearsal that we had with him last week. One of the sections we worked on today was changing a transition from the ending of the intense head dance into the Ritual dance. Once we had worked on this section we did a full out run through to ensure that this new transition would work, after we had done the run through we were given notes that we need to work on in further detail in the next rehearsal.

Tomorrow we will be working on the educational workshops that we will be delivering to schools during our tour. This is to ensure all company members know what is going on in the workshop if they have to help assist the workshop leaders.

Next week we will be filming Moon eaters ready for the release of our trailer.

Until Next Time

Skype rehearsal.. who would have imagined?!

Hi  Everyone,

We’ve had just over a week back in the studio introducing our bodies back into the timetable and technique classes, we also had another rehearsal as a company for Moon Eaters. Tour dates are now being confirmed and soon to start in March. Today we had a rehearsal with Dimitri over Skype which allowed to him see the progress of the piece since he last saw it in November. Skype allowed us to be able to receive feedback from him which was very useful as it has given us a lot of notes and pin points to work on in our next rehearsal.  Two main things we shall be working on over the next week will be tidying up que’s for the end of our solo sections which leads into our intense head dance section of the piece. We will also be fine tuning the transition from the head movement into a performer’s solo speech.

It was good to have the opportunity to rehearse with Dimitri, albeit with the aid of technology! It was refreshing to have his comments on the piece and tell us things he noticed that our both us as a company and our artistic director could have missed with seeing it each week. We discussed deadlines and tour dates in detail this week which gave us the opportunity to ask any burning questions we had as a group. We’ve got a fairly busy week ahead of us with more technique classes, rehearsals for the upcoming tour and on Monday we have a day in Leeds at Both Yorkshire Dance and Phoenix Dance Company. Here, we get the opportunity to watch a professional dance class and rehearsal; which will give us an insight to how a professional company works so we can compare and apply it to our practice as a company.  This day will also be great for us as it will give us an insight into how various people entered the performing arts and dance profession.

Keep reading our weekly blogs to see what we have been up to and what we have planned! Not long until our tour dates begin and a short week France is upon us!
As always, keep checking out Facebook, Twitter feeds, Instagram posts and Website (www.flighteffect.co.uk)  for more and more updates and information. Looking forward to updating you all next week.
Helen and Steph.

2016.. It's time for the Moon Eaters to shine!

Hello and happy new year from the Flight Effect!

We are now back in the studio after our Christmas break. We now see the start of the touring process and are working hard at organising venues and rehearsing Moon Eaters. It’s been a busy couple of weeks with a two day intensive where we regrouped as a company, ordered exciting new costumes and had an afternoon photo shoot all for you to access on out twitter, Facebook, instagram and our newly created website page. Over the last couple of weeks we have rehearsed the piece and worked on sections that needed enhancing. Today we were focusing on minor adjustments and transitions. We also discussed as a company words that we feel best describes the piece for when we come to create venue and education packs.

Next week we plan to have an online rehearsal via Skype with our choreographer Dimitri Tsiapkinis so he can see the development of the piece.

Please continue to look at our blog, facebook, instagram, twitter and website pages for upcoming tour dates, latest pictures and soon to be released trailer.
