Intensive Week Has Come To A Close

So intensive week has come to an end and our choreographer has gone home. We are so grateful to Dimitri for all he has done for us over the past 10 days. And what a busy intensive period we have had what with trying out movement material through improvisational tasks to use in the piece to sorting out costume ideas and lighting the performance, it certainly has been a chaotic few days. Intensive week has definitely been an emotional roller coaster, but we have all powered through, and the support we all received from each other through the process has brought us closer together as a company. The final few days of intensive have seen us finish trying out material and arrange the different sections to create the final product. We have also tried out different costume ideas ready for the premiere on the 10th of December. There as also been numerous hours of technical and costume, runs to make sure the piece would be at its best. We also performed our piece for the first time to a our university lecturers and first year theater students, as an experience before premiering the piece. It has been an amazing experience, and all company members have taken something different from working with Dimitri over the last few days. We are looking forward to touring the piece we have worked hard at creating.

Thank you so much to Dimitri for everything you have done for us and we are looking forward to meeting up with him again when we tour our piece in Paris in May.

Day six of intensive

Day six of intensive and we have nearly set our piece! It has been an exhausting week with emotions running high and low but we have come together as a team this week and demonstrated a true company! Working with Dimitri has been both an inspiration and a joy. The technique classes have been very interesting and it has been refreshing to embody a new technique. Only three more days until our intensive is over; and we shall soon be ready to perform at our premier on December 10th! Keep checking our blog for updates and don’t forget our twitter, Instagram and facebook accounts too!

First week of intensive

First day of intensive complete… what a productive day it has been! We have finally met our choreographer Dimitri, and began the process of creating material that may be used in the final piece. The day has included a technique class influenced by his movement style as well as an intensive and ‘chaotic’ (Dimitri’s words, not ours!) first rehearsal which was developed through improvisation as well as an introduction to our theme of the piece. The theme behind the piece was discussed in great detail over group discussion where we shared our individual research. Our main themes are Luna, Soma and Shaman. In the discussion we established that Luna was a roman god/goddess, associated with the moon. Soma is a ritual of which we will be researching further. We also discussed Shaman which to some cultures, is known to be a person that has ability to enter a state of chance when performing rituals. These themes will have a big influence of the creation of the piece with using our interpretations through movement.
Keep checking out our blog, we shall be keeping you up to date over the next ten days how our rehearsals are going!
